Objectives

The principal aim of the HEAT-ALARM project is to develop a prototype human-centric heat-health warning system (HWWS), going beyond the simple notion that outdoor meteorological conditions alone can reliably describe the heat-health nexus. Based on this goal, the specific objectives of HEAT-ALARM are:

To conduct an up-to-date human-biometeorological and epidemiological study over Greece in order to link mortality to thermo-physiological heat stress considering diverse population subsets (men, women, elderly, outdoor workers).

To develop a prototype numerical weather prediction system with building effects parameterization and building energy modeling, in order the HHWS to consider the intra-urban temperature variations, as well as the urban indoor temperatures.

To define a science- and policy-based protocol, according to a combination of indicators and factors associated with the human heat stress and urban thermal environment, for issuing and communicating location-specific, impact- and user-oriented heat warnings.
